Card meaning, orientation and spread position

Why the same image is read differently as situation or advice.

Start with the image

Figures, actions and objects support a card’s interpretation. A suit provides a cue, but Cups includes exchange, disappointment, departure and refusing an offered cup. Read the individual image before choosing a context.

Position changes the question examined

Situation describes a condition, challenge a difficulty, and advice a possible approach. The Eight of Pentacles may describe existing practice as situation and suggest practice with feedback as advice. Neither establishes a future job.

Reversal is not simple negation

Reversals are card-specific. Waite gives the Sun similar meanings to a lesser degree and retains prosperity for the Four of Wands. The Two of Cups chapter has no separate reversal. Modern interpretations are labeled separately from those records.
